Welding Technician Advanced

Program Overview:

This Advanced Welding course is designed for students
ready to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in key welding processes—GMAW, SMAW, GTAW,
and FCAW—and advanced cutting techniques, including oxy-fuel, plasma, and mechanical methods.
Students will undertake complex tasks such as designing and fabricating projects, interpreting
detailed blueprints, and operating CNC cutting equipment. In addition to technical expertise, this
course requires students to consistently exhibit critical employability skills: strict punctuality,
reliable attendance, effective teamwork, and unwavering commitment to safety protocols. Only
students who successfully complete the Entry-Level Welding course, meeting all attendance,
punctuality, and performance benchmarks, may enroll in this rigorous course.

WEBER STATE – MFET 2153 & MFET 2670: Theory and Skills course that require
students to demonstrate theoretical knowledge alongside proficient skills using Gas Metal Arc
Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

Additional Details:

Prerequisites: Entry Level Welding Course: Meet required attendance,
punctuality, and performance benchmarks.
Course Length: 1 Semester, EVERYDAY, PM session only.
High School Credit: CTE or Elective Credits; up to 2 credits.
Concurrent Enrollment: 4 college credits. Student is responsible to
register and pay for concurrent enrollment classes at WSU. For more
information on these classes, see Appendix.
Skill Certifications: Utah Intermediate & Advanced Level Welder State
Skill Test. AWS SENSE Entry level Welder Certifications.
Recommended: Students who have successfully completed the entry
level course and are serious about a career related to welding.
Class Focus: Mastering welding skills, acquiring AWS SENSE
certifications, and complex project design and fabrication.
Fees & Equipment: Estimated at $200 required fee + safe work
clothes and boots.
