Students interested in engineering or biomanufacturing will learn the manufacturing process from start to finish with project based activities, and complete job shadows and externships with leading bio-manufacturing companies. Utah’s medical device industry is the fastest growing industry in Utah, and is growing so quickly that it threatens to outpace the state’s ability to provide enough workers to fill the skilled jobs the industry requires. A lucrative and exciting job in biotechnology or medical manufacturing could be in your future. This is a great class for students interested in pursuing a career in any of the engineering fields, as the manufacturing process is critical to all engineering processes. This is also a great class for those wishing to start a career right out of high school.
Manufacturing Principles 1 (0.5 credit): Students will learn the history of the biotechnology and medical manufacturing industries, product development, operational structures and optimization, cost and quality control.
Biomanufacturing 1 (0.5 credit): Students will explore the medical device industry, FDA regulations as they apply to the medical device industry, and careers in this field.
High School Credit:
